What is 'the Bike'?
This particular machine began life in 2002 but wasn't registered in the UK until the first half of 2003
The bike was assembled during 2002/3 at the Honda plant in Hamamatsu, Japan as a model A2. It was produced in Tower Silver Metallic paintwork, code NH478M. As an aside, this colour is almost indistinguishable from BMW Aspen Silver, code 339 (touch ups for some Honda motorcycles are notoriously difficult to acquire whereas for BMWs they are not)
In the year following its acquisition and having had a 6 month break over Winter 2010 because of surgery induced personal incapacity and then for the obligatory Winter farkling session it's showing about 22k miles on the instruments. When it was bought by me with 17k miles on the clock the bike was a plain old A2 version with very few modifications having been made to it by the previous owner
No problem there because the machine as sold by Honda right out of the box (literally) is in every way entirely capable of delivering for its rider whatever thing might reasonably be asked of it with relative safety and in considerable comfort
The ST1300 started out in a basic version with no ABS or powered screen and was known as the STX1300. When these features became standard fitment the designation A2 was given and the previous model name STX1300 was dropped in favour of the simpler ST1300
